Message from Dr. Christine Chambers: Building capacity, sharing knowledge and looking ahead

Congratulations to the 10 outstanding early career researchers who have been funded through our highly subscribed ECR competition (2025). This cohort of researchers reflects the depth and diversity of research being conducted across all four CIHR pillars, advancing knowledge and contributing to improved health outcomes for children, youth, and their families. The 2026 ECR competition is offered in partnership with the CIHR Institutes of Indigenous Peoples Health (IIPH), Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA), and Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD) and is open with a registration deadline of September 15.

We’re also proud to collaborate with CIHR-IIPH for the 2026 IHDCYH Talks knowledge mobilization (KM) competition, with support for awards dedicated to the Indigenous Health Research Area, as well as a new arts-based creative knowledge sharing format category to complement the video, podcast, and infographic categories. Register to submit your KM products by September 28. Public voting will be open for the month of November!

We’ve recently welcomed several new members of our Youth Advisory Council (YAC), and acknowledged the council’s achievements over the past year. A summer highlight was IHDCYH’s participation in the 2026 Canadian Knowledge Mobilization Forum in Toronto, where we contributed to sessions on youth partnership and strengthening knowledge mobilization across the health research ecosystem.

As we head into a new academic year, I hope everyone in our research community, along with your teams and families, has had a wonderful summer, whether it offered some well-earned time to recharge, a productive season of research and grant writing, or a bit of both. We’re excited for the opportunities ahead!

Sincerely,

Christine

Dr. Christine Chambers,
Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health
