Message from Dr. Christine Chambers: Joining a CIHR Institute Advisory Board and Extension of CIHR Scientific Directors’ Terms

Have you considered joining a CIHR Institute Advisory Board (IAB) to contribute to the advancement of health research priorities, strategies, and community engagement? The current application cycle is open until April 24, 2026, and once you apply, your application can remain active in the system for several cycles. Each year, Institutes balance multiple factors such as career stage, geographical location, and research area to ensure diversity in their IABs, so it can take time for an opening to appear that is a match with a specific applicant. This year, IHDCYH is seeking applicants from Atlantic Canada, and expertise in Indigenous Health Research, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. The IAB application allows candidates to select up to three CIHR Institutes that align with their expertise, and purposeful representation from our research community is meaningful across all CIHR IABs.

I’d also like to share an update regarding CIHR’s Scientific Directors. CIHR Governing Council has extended the terms of four Scientific Directors by 12 months. My term at IHDCYH will now end on December 31, 2028. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue working alongside my outstanding team, fellow Scientific Directors, our IAB, CIHR colleagues, partners, and the impressive community of investigators and trainees dedicated to advancing human development and child and youth health research across Canada and beyond. Together, we will continue to make a difference for children and families through health research.

Sincerely,

Christine

Dr. Christine Chambers,
Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health
