CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (IGH) Research Priority Plan 2024-2029

IGH's mandate is to foster research excellence regarding the influence of sex and gender on health and to apply these findings to identify and address pressing health challenges facing men, women, girls, boys and gender-diverse people.

Our Research Priorities

Advancing sex and gender science for healthy futures with the CIHR Institute of Gender and Health's new Research Priority Plan

Imagine a future where there is health and gender equity for all. The new CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (IGH) Research Priority Plan (RPP) for 2024-2029 articulates a path toward realizing this vision, by advancing, generating and mobilizing sex and gender science.

Co-created with over 500 researchers, trainees and community partners across Canada, the RPP outlines the priorities that IGH will be focusing its efforts on over the next five years, including:

  1. Driving systemic change for sex and gender+ integration;
  2. Advancing sex and gender science by understanding and addressing mechanisms and processes; and
  3. Investing in research on the health needs and priorities of key communities experiencing sex and gender inequities, including the health of women, 2S/LGBTQI, Black and Indigenous people.
