Message from Dr. Jane Rylett: Launch of CIHR-IA Older Adult Advisory Council

I am thrilled to announce the launch of the CIHR Institute of Aging Older Adult Advisory Council. This new Council will bring diverse perspectives related to the health and well-being of older adults, and will help us ensure that the voices of older adults and caregivers of older adults across Canada are considered as we plan our upcoming activities.

The Council consists of 12 members from across the country with a range of experiences and backgrounds. The members will meet virtually two to three times per year to discuss topics related to our Institute’s mandate.

To gain insight from an even larger number of older adults from across the country, we are also in the process of establishing Regional Advisory Councils. We will announce these members in the autumn of 2021.

We look forward to working with these outstanding Council members to better understand and include the perspectives of people with lived experience as we work together to ensure quality of life of older adults and caregivers.

“This new Older Adult Advisory Council will allow CIHR to continue to strengthen health research related to aging in Canada. I would like to thank the council members for their willingness to participate in these important discussions.”

Dr. Michael Strong, President, CIHR

We thank all those who applied to participate in the Council. The applications we received to join our Council were outstanding, and we are so pleased to see that older Canadians are so generous with their time and willing to help with improving the health of the aging population.
