Canada's acute care system is facing major challenges. Delayed visits are preventing timely interventions, and prolonged hospital stays with growing complications are increasing clinical complexity and disease burden, worsening health outcomes. As hospital care is experiencing a rising demand and represents the largest health expenditure in Canada, the situation has significant impacts not only on patients, but also on the health workforce and economy. To reimagine acute care in Canada we must reduce the burden of acute disease, improve treatment outcomes, accelerate recovery and build a more sustainable, equitable and resilient healthcare system for Canadians. This is why research aimed at improving health outcomes before, during, and after acute care episodes is urgently needed to support evidence-informed decision-making.
To respond to these challenges, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Reimagine Acute Care - Catalyst Grant Funding Opportunity, led by the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH). Through this Funding Opportunity, ICRH will support projects that strengthen collaboration across the pre‑acute, acute, and post‑acute phases of the care continuum, encourage innovative approaches that leverage health data, digital tools, and emerging technologies, and promote research across fields and research pillars that spans multiple ICRH mandate areas to reflect the reality of complex and intersecting conditions. To facilitate new partnerships and interdisciplinary teams and help build the collaborative capacity needed to generate measurable outcomes for a major impact, ICRH is pleased to invite the community to a networking event.
Please complete the registration survey by April 29, 2026 (12:00 p.m. ET) to participate in the networking event.
