Call for Nominations for the 2023 CIHR-ICRH/CSATVB Mid-Career Excellence Award in Blood and Blood Vessel Research

The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) and the  Canadian Society of Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (CSATVB) have partnered on the 2023 CIHR-ICRH/CSATVB Mid-Career Excellence Award in Blood and Blood Vessel Research. The establishment of this annual Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Blood and Blood Vessels by the CIHR-ICRH and CSATVB is to recognize an individual's outstanding contribution to the advancement of blood and blood vessels in Canada at the mid-point of their career. The award will be presented to the selected candidate at the Canadian Vascular and Lipid Summit, where the recipient will give a lecture as part of the scientific program. The Canadian Lipid and Vascular Summit is a joint scientific symposium of the CSATVB and the Canadian Lipoprotein Conference.

The selected candidate will be an outstanding mid-career investigator (at the time of application, has assumed their independent research position 5-15 years ago) who has conducted the majority of their research in Canada and has contributed significantly to the advancement of blood and blood vessel sciences in Canada and/or internationally. For the 2023 competition only, the eligibility time frame is adjusted by 1 year to account for productivity losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the eligibility time frame is from 6-16 years ago. For all competitions, we will account for all disclosed leaves (i.e. parental, medical, and family responsibility leave) when calculating career stage.

The individual may have conducted work in any one of a number of blood science disciplines and within any of the four CIHR research theme areas: biomedical; clinical; health systems and services; and social, cultural, environmental and population health. The successful candidate’s research should also be aligned with the interests of CSATVB and CIHR-ICRH.

The award consists of a $5,000 honorarium and reimbursement of eligible expenses (e.g., travel, accommodations, registration fee, etc.) for the recipient to attend the 2023 Canadian Vascular and Lipid Summit and to deliver a lecture on a research topic relevant to a broad research audience.

Please note that only one nomination for an individual is permitted and multiple nominations for an individual will not be accepted. Scientists who have received a CIHR-ICRH partnered Mid-Career Lecturer Award previously are not eligible for nomination.

Nominations for candidates not selected may be carried forward for consideration for up to three (3) consecutive years from the original nomination year, and the nominator may be contacted to update the nomination package.
