About INMD

Who we are

The Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD) is one of the 13 virtual institutes that make up the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

INMD was designed to link researchers, scientists, community groups, and individuals from around the world who share an interest in enhancing health in relation to diet, digestion, excretion, and metabolism. A highly respected Scientific Director and a small, professional staff manage INMD day-to-day activities. A dedicated Institute Advisory Board (IAB) provides essential input and guidance into everything we do.

What we do

As one of the 13 Institutes of CIHR, the INMD shares responsibility for achieving the principal objectives of CIHR.

INMD supports research to enhance health in relation to diet, digestion, excretion, and metabolism; and to address causes, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation for a wide range of conditions and problems associated with hormone, digestive system, kidney, and liver function. More details can be found under research priorities.

Questions surrounding nutrition, metabolism and diabetes transcend all borders. This is reflected in the broad variety of workshops and symposia hosted by INMD that bring together the wide variety of partners, stakeholders and organizations that make up the INMD community.

In our short history, INMD support has contributed to an impressive number of research achievements. Please see our publications for more details.
