Biography

Dr. Siddika Mithani is a former senior executive in the federal public service of Canada, with an extensive career spanning public health, food safety, and environmental stewardship. She served as President of both the Public Health Agency of Canada (2016–2019) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (2019–2023), playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and well-being of Canadians.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mithani held several high-profile leadership positions, including Associate Deputy Minister at Environment and Climate Change Canada and Assistant Deputy Minister at Agriculture Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Health Canada. With a strong foundation in regulatory science, she has in-depth expertise in the review, evaluation, and approval of clinical trials in Canada.

Early in her career, Dr. Mithani practiced as both a hospital and community pharmacist in Ottawa, bringing a patient-centered perspective to her work in public health policy and regulation. She currently contributes her expertise as a member of the Research Ethics Board at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Hôpital Montfort, and serves as an honorary Senior Fellow at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Ottawa.

Dr. Mithani holds a B.Sc. in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Psychopharmacology from the University of Aston, UK, and is a licensed member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
