Institute Community Support (ICS) Program – Brain Bee

Objectives

The Brain Bee is a competition for high school students, grades 9 through 12. Students are tested on the knowledge about the brain and neuroscience research. It is designed to stimulate interest and excitement about brain research. The Brain Bee is a 3-tiered competition (local, national, and international), celebrated in more than 50 countries around the world.

Award

A maximum of one grant of $55,000 per year for up to five years is available to organize, host and fully execute the annual Canadian Brain Bee competition, including supporting regional Brain Bee competitions as required, and to sponsor at least one National Brain Bee competitor to attend the annual Canadian Association for Neuroscience (CAN) Canadian Neuroscience Meeting.

Evaluation criteria

The application will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to execute a high-quality, professional CIHR Canadian National Brain Bee, as well as provide support for local competitions and relevant support for the Canadian champion at the International Brain Bee.
  • Demonstrated ability to use CIHR-INMHA's contribution to leverage other resources to successfully deliver the Brain Bee competition for high school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to equitably support local Brain Bee competitions and increase diversity of representation in Brain Bee from regions across Canada.
