Evaluation of the British Columbia Exemption to Allow for Personal Possession of Small Amounts of Illegal Drugs

The research team for the Evaluation of the British Columbia Exemption to Allow Personal Possession of Small Amounts of Illegal Drugs funding opportunity is required to submit semi-annual (every six months) knowledge mobilization reports to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), including an end-of-grant report. CIHR will post summaries of these reports on its website to provide real-time progress updates and research findings accessible to knowledge users and all Canadians.

On May 10, 2023, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) hosted a virtual midpoint knowledge exchange forum for an evaluation project funded through the Operating Grant: Evaluation of Harm Reduction Approaches to Address the Opioid Crisis in the Context of COVID-19 funding opportunity. This research project is evaluating Safer Supply Pilot Projects supported by Health Canada through their Substance Use and Addictions Funding Program (SUAP). This report comprises a synthesis of progress and current findings presented by the research team and a summary of knowledge user and audience perspectives shared during a discussion session.

On Oct. 28, 2022, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) hosted a virtual end-of-grant knowledge exchange workshop for four one-year supervised consumption sites (SCS) evaluation projects funded through the Operating Grant: Evaluation of Harm Reduction Approaches to Address the Opioid Crisis in the Context of COVID-19 funding opportunity. This report comprises a synthesis of the evidence presented by the four research teams and a summary of knowledge user and audience perspectives shared during a panel reflections and discussion session.

On Oct. 22 and 29, 2020, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) hosted an online end-of-grant Knowledge Exchange Workshop for projects funded through the Evaluation of Interventions to Address the Opioid Crisis funding opportunity. This report comprises a synthesis of the evidence presented by research teams, a summary of knowledge user and stakeholder perspectives that were shared, and highlights from the discussions that followed.

Operating Grant: Opioid Crisis Knowledge Synthesis End of Grant Workshop summary

The Opioid Crisis Knowledge Synthesis End of Grant Workshop Report summarizes a workshop held January 22, 2019 to bring together researchers funded through the Opioid Crisis Knowledge Synthesis program, policy makers, community members and other knowledge users. The workshop intended to

  • Increase the application of knowledge generated through projects related to policy and decision-making, in order to address the most urgent elements of the opioid crisis, including opioid-related mortality rates and associated harms;
  • Examine potential barriers and facilitators to implementation; and
  • Explore considerations related to sub-populations and social determinants of problematic opioid use.

On February 15, 2022, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) hosted a virtual end-of-grant Knowledge Exchange Workshop for projects funded through the Methamphetamine and Related Psychostimulant Use funding opportunity. Seven research teams were funded through this competition, and each team was required to include at least one knowledge user in their projects.
