Notice of upcoming Monkeypox 2 Research Funding Opportunity

This funding opportunity is now available on ResearchNet.

CIHR would like to provide information to the research community on an upcoming funding opportunity to support interdisciplinary research on the evolving threat of Monkeypox. It is anticipated that the Monkeypox Interdisciplinary Research Funding Opportunity will be launched the week of December 19, 2022.

We are providing preliminary information to allow the research community to prepare and respond to an expedited process.

Research focus areas

This funding opportunity will support interdisciplinary Canadian research teams to generate timely and relevant research evidence across five broad priority areas:

This investment will support the integration of research with policy and clinical and public health practice. This will be critical for improving the understanding of the virus, help to better monitor the situation, predict and identify current and future outbreaks, support the development of more effective treatments and prevention and control guidelines, and inform national and global decision-making and public health action. Finally, this investment will contribute to building capacity in Canada to undertake research on viral zoonotic infections of domestic or global origins.

Availability of Funds

The total amount available for this funding opportunity is approximately $11M. The Government of Canada's financial contributions are subject to availability of funds. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. Should the Government of Canada funding levels not be available or are decreased due to unforeseen circumstances, the Government of Canada reserves the right to reduce, defer or suspend financial contributions to grants received as a result of this funding opportunity.
