Notice of Upcoming Funding Opportunity for Operating Grant: Evaluation and Implementation Science for Youth Mental Health

Introduction
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of the Evaluation and Implementation Science for Youth Mental Health. This funding opportunity is led by the CIHR Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction and is part of the Youth Mental Health Fund.
Overview
This upcoming funding opportunity will support evaluation and/or implementation science research on youth mental health interventions (i.e., interventions, programs and practices that aim to prevent and/or reduce the symptoms of mental health, substance use and/or neurodevelopmental conditions, including clinic-, school- or community-based, psychological and pharmacological interventions).
The objectives of this funding opportunity will be to:
- Support high-quality evaluation and/or implementation science to examine the feasibility, efficacy, effectiveness, sustainability, and/or scalability of youth mental health interventions.
- Generate high-quality, actionable evidence to enhance equitable access to quality mental health interventions, services and systems, strengthen their implementation and scalability, and ultimately improve mental health outcomes for youth across Canada.
Teams will be expected to apply internationally recognized evaluation and/or implementation science frameworks and rigorous methodologies, including hypothesis-driven, quasi-experimental or experimental designs and mixed-methods approaches informed by a proposed theory of change. Teams must include one of the following outcome indicators: a) capacity (training, knowledge, skills and abilities); b) quality of delivery of youth mental health services; c) access and wait times for mental health services; and d) acceptability and satisfaction with care. Additionally, every application must include at least one measure of youth mental health outcomes.
Funding Exclusion: Interventions that have already been supported, funded or evaluated within the Integrated Youth Services (IYS-Net) initiative will not be eligible.

Partner Linkage Tool
CIHR is providing a Partner Linkage Tool that is intended to facilitate connections between organizations implementing youth mental health interventions with evaluation and implementation science research teams, should there be interest. This is not a mandatory tool. Information is provided on a volunteer basis and does not confer any advantages in the evaluation and funding of applications. The table will be updated weekly until the application deadline. If you would like to use this tool, please complete a short survey. The information you provide will appear on CIHR's website. Please note that potential applicants are not required to use the linkage tool or contact those who have submitted their information.
Funds Available
The total amount available for this funding opportunity is anticipated to be up to $6,000,000, enough to fund approximately 10 grants.
The maximum amount per grant is anticipated to be $200,000 per year for up to 3 years, for a total of $600,000 per grant.
