Accessibility Plan 2026–2028
Message from the President
December 19, 2025
On behalf of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), I am proud to present our renewed Accessibility Plan for 2026–2028. The plan was developed in alignment with the Accessible Canada Act and guided by our vision of a more inclusive, barrier-free health research ecosystem.
Improving accessibility requires sustained commitment, accountability, and partnership, and our renewed plan builds on the foundation laid in 2023–2026. It reflects what we have learned from consultations with employees from various working groups, external experts, and individuals with lived and learned experience.
The voices of persons with disabilities have been - and will continue to be - essential to our progress. I want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the renewal of this plan, and extend special appreciation to the Employee Network for Persons with Disabilities for their ongoing engagement. Your insights and leadership are helping shape a stronger, more inclusive CIHR.
CIHR will continue to report on its progress each year and will remain open to feedback that helps us grow and improve. Together, we will ensure that accessibility is embedded in all we do, for the benefit of all Canadians.
Dr. Paul Hébert
President, CIHR
