• Should grantees incorporate the strengthening workshop into their workplan?

  The strengthening workshop can be built into the project workplan timeline and budget. It is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2024. The main purpose of this workshop will be to network with other grantees.

• Will youth and caregiver/family reviewers be compensated for their time?

• Can there be more than one Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA)?

  No, there can only be one NPA per application. However, there can be Principal Applicants (PAs), who hold leadership roles on the team. PAs will not submit the application in ResearchNet nor manage the funds; only the NPA will do this.

• The call states that IYS-Net will have the opportunity to interact in mutually beneficial relationships with Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR)-funded entities and broader Patient-Oriented Research (POR) community. How is this envisioned? Is this something we build into the budget?

  It is not required for applicant teams to have established relationships with Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR)-funded entities. CIHR will provide guidance, as needed, to IYS-Net teams to interact with SPOR-funded entities and Patient-Oriented Research (POR) community, for example through workshops and/or meetings. As stated in the funding opportunity, the specific nature and extent of these collaborations will be explored as the initiative progresses. Teams are still welcome to initiate these collaborations, if so desired but they are not required to set aside a budget for interactions/opportunities with SPOR entities.

  However, as stated in the Conditions of Funding section of the funding opportunity, applicant teams are required to participate in meetings/workshops throughout the funding term. These meetings will be hosted and organized by CIHR and involve key partners. The strengthening and end-of-grant workshops will be in-person, and the progress meetings will be virtual. Teams are required to budget for at least three participants (including the NPA and Principal Knowledge User (PKU), if applicable) to attend the in-person workshops.

• For the “Practice to Data Champion", "Knowledge to Practice Champion”, “EDI Champion”, “Indigenous Research Champion” and “Sex and Gender Champion” as part of Stream 1 [(a) Could you clarify the eligibility criteria for these roles? (b) How many roles can overlap with the same person? Or do they have to be different people?"]

  • Eligibility criteria for these roles are stated in the Funding Opportunity;

    For Stream 1, among the applicant team members on the application, at least one team member must be identified for each of the roles below and be clearly identified as such in the Participant Table (See How to Apply section). These team members are expected to work with the NPA / Data to Knowledge Champion. Applicants are strongly encouraged to develop a diverse and equitable team. The roles below can be served by a Principal Applicant (PA), Co-Applicant, Principal Knowledge User (PKU) or Knowledge User (KU), who may hold other roles in addition to standing as those listed below:

    1. A Practice to Data Champion with expertise in clinical data management and/or data science.
    2. A Knowledge to Practice Champion who has experience developing and implementing integrated knowledge mobilization plans, and who has expertise in knowledge mobilization and implementation science.
    3. An Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Champion with expertise in sound EDI practices and principles, and experience in meaningful and culturally safe sex and gender-based analysis (SGBA) or gender diversity. See Additional Information for wise practices on including an EDI Champion and defining their potential roles in the network and for details on SGBA+.
    4. An Indigenous Research Champion who self-identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis), or provides evidence of having meaningful and culturally safe involvement with Indigenous Peoples (see How to Apply and Additional Information).
    5. A Sex and Gender Champion with experience in meaningful and culturally safe sex and gender-based analysis (SGBA) or gender diversity in Indigenous communities

    Kindly note that the appropriateness of team members in these roles will be evaluated at peer review.

  • For Stream 1: As stated in the above-mentioned eligibility criteria, at least one team member must be identified for each of the roles. Team members cannot serve in more than one role within eligibility criteria #9 (i.e., Practice to Data Champion, Knowledge to Practice Champion, EDI Champion, Indigenous Research Champion), so each role must be served by a different person; for example, the individual who serves in the Practice to Data Champion cannot serve in the role as Knowledge to Practice Champion. The roles can be served by Principal Applicant (PA), Co-Applicant, Principal Knowledge User (PKU) or Knowledge User (KU). These participants roles can however overlap with participants that serve to meet the eligibility criteria #6-#8.

    Additionally, please note that all of this information (roles of participants) must be clearly indicated in the participant table. For details on what should be included in the participant table, please refer to the ‘how to apply section’ of the funding opportunity.

• For Stream 1, the call outlines four meetings that will take place across the grant timeline with two progress meetings. When will these meetings be held?

  The timing for scheduling workshops/progress meeting dates has not been confirmed and may change. For your planning purposes, below is an approximate timeline for the workshops and meetings for Stream 1:

  • Spring 2024: In-person strengthening workshop
  • Summer/Fall 2025: Virtual progress meeting 1
  • Late 2026/early 2027: Virtual progress meeting 2
  • Late 2028/early 2029: In-person end-of-grant workshop
• What if the NPA’s institution is not authorized to administer CIHR funds? Funds will only be released to the institution or organization identified as the Institution Paid.

  Funds will only be released to the institution or organization identified as the Institution Paid.

  If the Institution Paid is not already eligible to administer CIHR funds, it may be required to undergo a financial and eligibility review and sign a funding agreement, or the successful applicant may choose to have their funds administered by a CIHR eligible institution.
