About the Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies

The Research Centre, which is housed within CIHR, will ensure Canada has an emergency-ready health research system. The Research Centre builds on Canada’s research strengths and continues to grow its capacity to be a leader in preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from existing and future pandemics and public health emergencies. It collaborates with other federal departments and agencies, as well as stakeholders domestically and internationally.

The Government of Canada recently announced an ongoing investment of $18.5 million per year for the Research Centre to deliver on its activities.

Over the next several months, the Research Centre will establish its governance structures and develop learnings from past and ongoing experiences with pandemics and other health emergencies, to help to inform its strategic priorities and investment opportunities.
