Current CIHR grant opportunities to support children, youth and families
Message from Dr. Christine Chambers

We have lots of news to share in this mid-summer update, including a number of relevant funding opportunities for the IHDCYH community. July 27 is the deadline to apply for the CIHR operating grant: Understanding and mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on children, youth and families in Canada.

This funding opportunity emerged from our ongoing Inspiring Healthy Futures work, where “impactful research and knowledge” was identified as one of the five integrated priorities critical to supporting health and well-being of children, youth and families in Canada.

Other important COVID-related CIHR operating grants to be aware of include COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence with a deadline of August 10, and anticipated by the end of this month, CIHR will launch a second competition for Emerging COVID-19 Research Gaps and Priorities, to focus on new priority research areas following the first round announced in March.

I’m also glad to announce a new competition IHDCYH is partnering on for Sleep Research Consortium Team Grants. Recognizing the importance of sleep hygiene throughout the lifecycle, the competition will fund three interdisciplinary research teams and a Coordination and Knowledge Mobilization Centre. From how sleep relates to mental health and well-being, to the biology of sleep, to its impact on performance, we hope to learn a great deal through this work, including how sleep can be improved for infants, children, youth, and families.

Another upcoming launch we will soon be sharing additional details for is phase 2 of the Transitions in Care (TiC) Team Grants. This CIHR investment will support inter-disciplinary teams working on optimizing health outcomes during transitions in care, enabling development, implementation and more for innovative solutions to challenges arising from transitions in care. You can read more in the pre-announcement including details of specific funding pools such as Mental Health Care for Post-Secondary Students, Primary Care and Community Mental Health Care for Youth, and Mental Health Care for Black Youth.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable summer,

Christine
