Message from Dr. Brian H. Rowe as the U of A mourns following the Plane Crash in Iran
The Ukraine International Airlines crash leading to the tragic loss of 176 lives near Tehran has touched all Canadians and the global community. As many as 31 of the 63 Canadian citizens on board were from the Edmonton area and many more of the victims had connections to Canada. Victims included university professors, clinicians, students, children and other individuals from the local and national academic communities. The Canadian Institutes of Health Research - Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) is housed at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and we are an integral part of the local as well as the broader national academic communities. We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss of life and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all of those affected by these events. In particular, we send our support and condolences to the Ukrainian- and Iranian-Canadian communities.
Sincerely,
Brian H. Rowe
