Deadline extensions due to Hurricane Dorian

CIHR has been monitoring the situation in Atlantic Canada and will be granting deadline extensions to the applicants based in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and affected regions of New Brunswick due to the destruction and power outages caused by Hurricane Dorian. Funding opportunities that have an application deadline falling this week (September 9th to September 13th, 2019) will be granted an extension until 8:00pm ET on Tuesday September 17th, 2019.

All other applicants outside those regions must submit their application on the appropriate application deadline as originally noted on the funding opportunity.

For the Project Grant competition, affected institutions are being asked to provide CIHR Support with a list of Nominated Principal Applicants (NPA) that require extensions.

For all other funding opportunities, the NPA located in these regions will need to contact CIHR Support directly and request an extension by emailing

If a co-applicant residing in these regions is affected by the hurricane, leading to a delay in the NPA’s ability to submit their application, that co-applicant must contact the NPA directly. The NPA must then reach out to CIHR Support to request an extension.

Please note that institutions are responsible for changing internal deadline dates in ResearchNet, if applicable.
