Ethics Office Education Workbook

The CIHR Ethics Office Education Workbook consists of a Knowledge-to-Action/Ethics frameworkFootnote 1, and a series of scenarios where an ethics lens is applied and discussed.

The ethics research education resource material is initially intended to assist CIHR’s young investigator and trainee communities to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes to be able to identify and address the ethical issues inherent in their work throughout the research life cycle.

What sets the training kit apart is:

  • Its research life cycle perspective, which does not limit ethical analysis strictly to issues of human subject protection;
  • Its direct alignment with the four CIHR health research themes (formerly pillars);
  • Its open-ended, scenario-based didactic approach;
  • Its interactivity with the target audience.

Because of the dynamic nature of health research, unexpected ethical challenges continually arise; users will therefore be able to offer feedback on current case studies and propose new scenarios through the dedicated email to ensure the continuing relevancy of the Workbook.
