Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Self-identification Questionnaire

CIHR is committed to ensuring that its programs and peer review processes result in the fair and impartial treatment of all participants.

As part of our implementation of the Tri-Agency Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan (2018 – 2025), CIHR launched the Tri-Agency Self-identification Questionnaire for applicants in 2018 to better understand how historically excluded populations (i.e., the four designated groups identified in the Employment Equity Act) access CIHR funding.

The initial 2018 questionnaire was a first step — a starting point. In 2022, we expanded this questionnaire to collect information from applicants and peer review committee members on eight identity dimensions, including new questions on sexual orientation and population group. This new information will help us to understand where systemic barriers exist, and how to design equitable and inclusive programs that support the full and fair participation of all members of the health research community.
