Report of the International Peer Review Expert Panel

February 23, 2017

On February 22, the final report of the International Peer Review Expert Panel was received and accepted by CIHR Governing Council and we are pleased to share it publicly today.

The Expert Panel was convened to evaluate CIHR's new investigator-initiated programs and peer review processes. Drawing on their global experiences, the Panel members reviewed CIHR's new approaches relative to other national funding agencies and international best practices. Their deliberations were informed by key health research constituencies and stakeholders and we wish to thank both the Panel members and the research community for their invaluable contributions to this exercise.

Over the coming months, CIHR will work with stakeholders to assess the Panel's recommendations and outline a path forward. As all of us play an integral role in improving the grant adjudication process, we encourage all Canadian health researchers to read the report and reflect on how best to implement its recommendations.
