CIHR Open Access Policy harmonized across three granting agencies
(2015-03-19) On February 27th, 2015, CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC unveiled the new harmonized Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications. The policy is modeled after CIHR’s policy, which had been in effect since 2008. While CIHR-funded researchers will now refer to the new harmonized policy, compliance requirements will not change, including the need to adhere to existing open access requirements for publication-related data. For NSERC- and SSHRC-funded researchers, this new policy will require that all journal publications resulting from grants awarded May 1, 2015 and onwards be freely available to the public within 12 months.
There are two ways to comply with the Open Access Policy:
- Submit your peer-reviewed manuscript to any journal that will allow you to archive the manuscript in a central or institutional repository within 12 months of publication.
- Submit your manuscript to a journal that offers open access immediately or within 12 months.
Compliance with the policy will continue to be monitored through CIHR end of grant reporting. For more information, refer to the Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications.
