Jay Baltz is a Senior Scientist and Associate Director of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and Professor and Director of Basic Research of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa. He is a member of the Institute Advisory Board of the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health and Director of the CIHR Reproduction, Early Development, and the Impact on Health (REDIH) Training Program. Dr. Baltz received his BA in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania and PhD in Biophysics from The Johns Hopkins University. His postdoctoral training was in Dr. John Biggers's group at Harvard Medical School, where he investigated early embryo physiology. Dr. Baltz's current research interests are in transport processes, cell volume regulation, and other homeostatic mechanisms in growing and maturing oocytes and preimplantation embryos, and their role in producing healthy oocytes and embryos, particularly related to Assisted Human Reproduction and the early origins of disease.
